Sci Fi TV Listings for the Week of September 18th: Star Trek Discovery Has Its Launch!

By | September 17, 2017

Weekly roundup of science fiction and fantasy shows (as well as movies/specials of note) on the Prime Time TV schedule, also including programs that may be of interest to genre fans. Air dates and times subject to change without notice.

It has been a long wait since the Star Trek: Discovery series was first announced and its debut has been delayed multiple times from its originally planned January 2017 bow. But that show is finally ready for its launch and will get its unveiling on CBS this coming Sunday. Its premiere episode will be broadcast on CBS, but after that the show will only be available on the network’s CBS All Access streaming service. The premiere and second episode will be available for streaming immediately after the broadcast, and new episodes will be released weekly after that with eight total planned for fall. The second half of the first season will then start streaming in January 2018.  In other fall premieres for the week, NBC’s The Good Place returns for its second season on Wednesday (it moves to it regular Thursday timeslot next week), Syfy’s Channel Zero has its Season 2 premiere on Wednesday, FOX’s Gotham has its Season 4 premiere on Thursday, and The Orville moves to its regular timeslot leading out from that show on the same night.

As for the Summer wrap up, four shows have their finales this week.  NBC’s Midnight, Texas has its first season finale on Monday.  ABC’s Somewhere Between wraps up its “limited run” on Tuesday.  CBS’ Zoo wraps up its third season on Thursday.  And MTV’s Teen Wolf delivers its series finale on Sunday.  Those shows are making room for all the new Fall entries which will continue hitting in rapid-fire succession in the coming weeks.  You can see the full schedule at this link.
