ABC’s Galavant had its second season debut on Sunday and could only muster a 0.9 rating based on the preliminary overnights for the 18-49 demographic with just 3.2 million total viewers. That is just half the 2.0 score the show had for its Season 1 debut and it matches the series low it sunk to last year with its third episode. With numbers like that, you would assume that the show is certain to be cancelled, but then that was the assumption I made last year (when it ended as one of ABC’s lowest rated scripted shows) and it still got renewed. So does that mean this show really could survive at these ratings levels? Well, it thumbed its nose at the Cancellation Bear from the TV by the Numbers website with the episode title of its Season 2 premiere: “A New Season aka Suck It Cancellation Bear”.
